What you should know before you get started

  • Step 1

    Tell us who you are
You will need to enter information that will assist us in locating your customer record.

NOTE You cannot modify your name or date of birth, contact the Department at 603-271-2743

  • Online Customers

To buy licenses online you will have to do a customer search by entering your last name, date of birth (make sure you enter a 4 digit year) and just one of the following numbers:  a previous N.H. license number (year 2000 or later); a driver’s license number or a N.H. Hunter Education certificate / Bow Safety certificate (year 2000 or later).  (Note:  There may be a delay of as much as a month after taking our course for hunter or bow safety before the information is in our file).  If not found you will have an opportunity to enter your information.  When entering your personal information, enter your legal name as it appears on your driver's license.

Please note: In order to purchase a hunting or archery license using our online system or through Wal Mart, you must have held a hunting or archery license or taken hunter safety or bow safety in New Hampshire from the year 2000 or later. This allows NHFG to confirm that the applicant meets the hunter education requirements. Otherwise you will need to purchase your license at a traditional license agent. We apologize for any inconvenience

Note: Hunting and fishing licenses are legal documents intended to be purchased by the licensee. Refunds will not be granted for duplicate licenses purchased by others. The online license program is NOT checking to see if you already have purchased your license for the current year – that is the applicant’s responsibility.

  • Step 2
Select the licenses that are available for you to purchase.
  • General Licensing Information
A general hunting, fishing or archery license is required for people 16 years of age and over.

Minors: Minors under 16 years of age are required to purchase the following special licenses:  Special Deer Archery, Turkey, Bear, and Unit M Special Deer Tag. Non-resident minors under the age of 16 are also required to purchase a Muzzleloader license. Minors are not required to pay a Wildlife Habitat Fee or file a Harvest Information Survey (H.I.P.). Note: When purchasing licenses for minors under 18 years of age who DO NOT hold a valid driver's license or state issued non-driver's photo ID, the parent or legal guardian's driver's license number must be entered. On Moose Lottery Applications ALL applicants must provide their OWN driver's license number or state issued non-driver's photo ID number.

When purchasing youth (minor) licenses (not moose lottery applications):  Do a customer search first by entering their last name, DOB and HE or BS certificate card number if they have one, otherwise enter parent or guardian's drivers license number.  If no record is found, click on 'New Customer'.  The license must be under the minors name.

Permanent License Holders: Permanent licenses including, Lifetime, Over Age 68, Disabled Vet, and Paraplegic are not available online. Any secondary licenses (those not covered by the permanent license) may be purchased online.

Resident (of NH) Landowners: Resident landowners hunting on their own land do not need to purchase the basic firearm license (however they cannot hunt off their property without a license).  However they must purchase any other licenses such as archery, muzzleloader, pheasant, turkey etc.  Resident landowner secondary licenses are only available at Fish and Game Headquarters in Concord.
  • Step 3
    Submit Payment Information
  • Fees

A $2.75 internet transaction fee and 2.5 % credit card fee will be charged for each purchase, in addition to the license cost. This does not apply to Moose Lottery Applications. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover for the payment of license fees.
A Note about Refunds: Please be aware that there is no provision within state law that provides the Department with the authority to refund license monies. It is the Department's policy not to issue refunds for licensee errors. For program system error, please contact the Department for review and consideration. Any amount refunded will be less $1 per license type, a 2.5% credit card fee, and $2.75 transaction fee. Only one application shall be entered in the lottery, Moose Lottery Applications are NOT refundable.

  • Step 4
Print and sign your license - In order for the license to be valid it must be printed out and signed by the applicant.
